How We Build

Rough prototypes on the field, full CAD model in parallel. Every subsystem went through a few versions before we settled on the one we kept, and all the code is public. Meet the students behind the build.

Drivetrain

Mecanum Wheels

Drives in any direction, including sideways. Motors slot straight into a U-shaped frame so the intake path does not jam.

Localisation

Two-Wheel Odometry

Two dead-wheel encoder pods plus the Control Hub IMU track position even when the drive wheels slip. Paths run on Pedro Pathing.

Launcher

Triple-Flywheel Shooter

Three flywheels for grip and an adjustable hood to reach both the close and far shooting zones.

Turret

Lazy-Susan Turret

Gear-driven rotation on a lazy-Susan bearing aims the shooter without turning the whole robot.

FIRST Tech Challenge UK Think Award plaque won by KCLMS Volcanix

Think Award, First Try

In DECODE you launch artifacts into the goal against the clock, and points go to teams that score accurately and can repeat it. Our triple-flywheel launcher and a repeatable autonomous (drive off the line, spin up, land three shots) earned us the Think Award at our first UK qualifier, judged on the engineering and documentation behind the robot.
